Marathon or Marapond?
Oh my god! I can tell you running a 21km marathon for the army half marathon this year was basically much of a disaster.
First of all, the weather brought about an interesting change in the terrain we had to ran on. It practically killed every single of one our shoes. Ever shoe was noticeably brown after the run. Even though the terrain is is pretty interesting compared to those before, it wasn't easy to run through a terrain that reduces the friction our shoes had to offer.
Nothing can be done about the weather though as only our god can decide what's installed for us on that day. However, a HUGE TURN OFF actually comes from the human factor.
YES! I'm talking about SINGAPORE UNIQUE CULTURE which is to be inconsiderate.
There are many turn offs coming from our home grown Singaporean. However, i will only mention one to avoid much embarrassment(yes! I'm a Singaporean myself).
Ask yourself one question. Why would people pay money to take part in a marathon like this? To be fit? To lead a healthy lifestyle?
NO!!
Those are not demonstrated in the race itself. It's more like a race to drink water/100plus. I can understand that one can be thirsty after running long distances. However, is there a NEED to STOP together and block the route where everyone is running? It's as if a blockage is created so suddenly that people behind had to stop abruptly to prevent themselves from knocking into the ones running in front. Another point to add is that there isn't a need to take more then 1 cup to drink is there? Halo, we are running a marathon there not some run drink run session. Each stop that we take can actually kill our tempo to run. I believe that staying in tempo for long distance running is very important.
So to all fellow Singaporeans, please take into consideration of the other runners participating in the marathon as well.
